A person who contaminated candy with sedative and provided them to children at a youth camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual crimes against two young males aged nine and 10.

Nevertheless, he refused to admit one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.

The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on late November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.

She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer program which he ran.

Ruben played a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in July 2025.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about the activities, for good reason.

"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel explained materials including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his stepchild contacted the police about his worries.

She stated the defendant continued to play the "candy game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.

"The police had not responded by that stage," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.

Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the family member called the law enforcement once more.

She stated the defendant then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
