Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then found multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for information.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
